FAQs & Useful Information

When it comes to portable toilet hire these are some of the most frequently asked questions here at Toilets+. We pride ourselves in outstanding customer service, if you have any questions that aren’t on this list or would like further clarification on one of our answers below, please contact us and we’ll be very happy to help.

How many people can each toilet cater for?

Our toilets will manage effluent from up to 7 people working a normal 40 hour week. If you're likely to exceed this, we suggest hiring more than one unit or call us on 0800 606100 to discuss your options

Where is the best place to put the toilet?

To deliver and collect the toilet we will need clear access to the site where it will be placed and clear access to the unit. We can access a toilet from up to 15 metres away in order to service it. We advise positioning a toilet on level ground away from windows that may need to be opened during the hire and the access should be clear at all times. To ensure a timely and efficient delivery of the toilet to your preferred site, please provide an accurate and detailed site address, and contact details for someone onsite, together with any relevant access or navigation information.

Can I move the toilet once it’s on site?

If you need to move the toilet once it’s in position, please do so carefully. And always ensure it’s within 15 metres of the closest access point for our vehicles so we can continue to service it. Keep us informed if you move the toilet or if access to the site where the toilet is placed becomes blocked, as our drivers will need to know. In addition to this, please avoid placing the toilet on one-way streets or near parked cars.

How much space do I need to make available for the unit?

Our standard units are 4ft square and you will need to make sure that you allow adequate space for the unit itself and for the door to open and close. View toilet hire.

How often do you service the toilet?

We service the units weekly.

When do you service the toilets?

All of our toilet servicing is done between 7.30am and 4.30pm weekdays, this excludes bank holidays and weekends.

Do I need to be here when you deliver/collect the toilets?

Yes, if possible. Help on site may be needed to manoeuvre a portable toilet into position (and off site) as we don’t carry lifting equipment on our trucks.

Do I have to empty the toilet myself?

The short answer is no, we clean and service our portable toilets. The exception to this rule are the Mains Toilets, as they’re connected to the sewerage, they don’t need emptying.

Are the toilets suitable for disposing of sanitary products or paper towels?

No. Do not place anything other than our provided toilet roll into the toilet, to avoid toilet blockages. This includes putting rubbish, paper towels or rags in the tank too. If a toilet is blocked and requires us to come on site to fix, extra charges may apply.

Are there lights in the units?

The units do not have lights installed and rely on external lighting through a translucent roof. When choosing the location of the unit, bear this in mind and ensure that the roof is not obscured by trees etc.

Do the toilets have any security in-built?

No. The customer is responsible for the security of the toilet from commencement of hire. Always remember to secure the toilet when it is not in use with a combination padlock and ensure you advise us of the code.

Can the unit be used for storage on site?

No. Do not store anything (tools, consumables etc.) in the toilet. Anything stored in the loo will not be safe or secure and may block our access to service the toilet.

Can I add chemicals into the toilet?

The chemicals used in our loos are specially designed, no other chemicals should be added to the tank as it can cause them to be less effective. The loo should also be positioned out of direct sunlight where possible, as this could reduce the lasting effects of the chemical too. Should you have any further questions for our team that are not covered above, call us on 0800 606100.

The chemical toilet I’ve hired is not flushing. How do I fix this?

If the toilet is not flushing, pour a bucket of water into the pan to bring the water level back up and pump several times to get the flush going. If this does not resolve the issue, contact our team and we'll get someone out as soon as we are able to.

Is it illegal to not have toilet hire facilities on site?

It is advised by the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that “If you employ anyone (however short the period) you must ‘so far as reasonably practicable’, provide adequate and appropriate welfare facilities for them while they are at work.”

Can I hire a luxury toilet trailer for my event?

Yes, we now have luxury toilet trailers available for hire. Find out more on our Luxury Toilet Hire page or call 0800 606100.

How much notice do you need when booking?

The majority of orders are delivered the next day (subject to availability), but notice is always appreciated, especially at peak times.
