365 days of Toilet Twinning!
World Toilet Day 2021 is upon us! We celebrate toilets every day at Toilets+, today is no exception – it marks 1 whole year since we announced our Charity Partnership with Toilet Twinning and supported them to twin as many toilets as possible. The 365 days has seen us step, walk, run, cycle, give up alcohol and even dye a beard blue to help raise money for this amazing charity.
The aim was to raise £5k to be match funded by Toilets+ to twin as many toilets as possible. Our Team have completely smashed it with a total amount of £5,760 raised and 96 toilets twinned!
Toilet Twinning work tirelessly to help communities in impoverished countries to have access to clean, safe sanitation. An unbelievable stat especially in today’s world – 1.7 billion – or one in four people – still don’t have somewhere safe to go to the loo. Not only do Toilet Twinning help provide materials and training to build toilets, they teach the communities the importance of having, using and maintaining their loos. This ensures sustainability: that communities will continue using their loo and never want to be without one again.
When presented with the funds, Lorraine Kingsley, Chief Executive of Toilet Twinning said “We’ve loved the synergy between us and Toilets+ because we both understand the vital need for good sanitation, albeit in very different contexts.
We’re hugely grateful for the amazing generosity and creativity of the Toilets+ team and their management, in all sponsored events and match-funding over a sustained period. It’s no exaggeration to say that their £10,000 donation will change thousands of lives and entire communities for ever.”
The fundraising activities from the Toilets+ Team have ranged from cycling 750 miles in a month, giving up alcohol, dying facial hair blue, step challenges and running 75 miles in a week. All of the team have enjoyed having something different to focus on especially when they knew their efforts were helping the communities in Zambia – our chosen country to support.
Toilets+ have match funded the £5760, so the total raised for Toilet Twinning is £10k making the total number of toilets twinned up to 167!
